Project Controls Engineer

Job Summary:

In this role, you will perform routine cost estimating, analysis, and control activities and support the implementation of cost monitoring and control standards, preparation of cost data, and the project trend program. You will assist with budget allocation and developing quantity takeoffs, project codes, and application unit rates. Your work will help ensure projects stay on budget and excel.
Major Responsibilities:

Performs routine cost estimating, analysis, and control activities, as directed
Supports the implementation of cost monitoring and control standards, techniques, systems, and reports
Assists with budget allocation and reporting/cost control for specific construction discipline or group of disciplines
Supports the preparation of cost data for proposals or contracts
Assists in the development of quantity takeoffs for a specific discipline or specialty
Assists in developing specific project codes of accounts and recommends appropriate modifications and revisions
Supports the project trend program
Assists in the development and application of unit rates (cost and job hours) to quantity takeoffs
Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:

Experience in performing, monitoring, and reviewing cost engineering functions, including cost estimating, cost control, financial reporting systems, and cost analysis at a jobsite location. Skilled in oral and written communication.
Proficiency in using PC operating systems, including several basic software applications.
Proficiency in using multiple discipline‑specific software applications currently used by Bechtel (Ecosys, Hyperion, Digital Supply Chain, for example). Knowledge of financial report systems and controller account codes, and understanding of Controller instructions, which impact Project Controls. Intermediate level of knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and startup work processes, as performed by Bechtel. Knowledge of engineering and/or construction management is customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.
Experience on major lump sum projects with direct hire construction strategy is required. Knowledge of LNG projects and jobsite experience is preferred. Proactive self‑starter with a proven ability to work independently and efficiently.
Additional Information: Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
