Seasonal Parks Maintainer

The City of Danbury is now hiring a Seasonal Parks Maintainer for the Summer 2026 season. The City of Danbury is seeking Seasonal Park Maintainers to support the upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of City parks, recreational facilities, and grounds. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled manual labor tasks related to landscaping, groundskeeping, and minor facility maintenance to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained public spaces.
Work is performed under the supervision of a higher-level employee, with many tasks becoming routine after initial training. This position requires the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and to perform physically demanding tasks on a consistent basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain park grounds, including lawns, athletic fields, gardens, playgrounds, and recreational areas
Perform landscaping tasks such as mowing, trimming, raking, planting, watering, and pruning trees and shrubs
Groom and line athletic fields, including baseball and soccer fields, on a routine basis
Clean and maintain park facilities, including benches, fencing, and public-use areas
Paint and repair park structures such as benches, tables, fences, and buildings
Operate and maintain light and medium-duty equipment, including mowers, tractors, blowers, rakes, rollers, and small trucks
Assist with seasonal operations such as leaf removal, snow removal, and ice control
Perform minor maintenance and basic repairs to tools and equipment
Load, unload, and transport materials, supplies, and equipment as needed
Support setup and breakdown of park events or recreational activities when required
Follow all safety procedures and report hazards, damages, or unsafe conditions
Perform related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age
Ability to perform manual labor and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Basic knowledge of groundskeeping tools, equipment, and safety practices preferred
Ability to operate or learn to operate light equipment and vehicles
Ability to obtain a Connecticut Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred but not required for all assignments
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
Strong work ethic and reliability
Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment use and maintenance
Awareness of workplace safety practices
Ability to complete repetitive tasks efficiently and accurately
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching
Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance
Ability to operate equipment and tools requiring manual dexterity
Ability to work for extended periods outdoors in heat, cold, humidity, or inclement weather
Work Environment

Work is performed primarily outdoors in park and recreational settings
Exposure to weather conditions, noise from equipment, and environmental elements such as dust, grass, and debris
May involve working near active recreational areas and interacting with the public

Hours & Schedule: This is a temporary 89 day assignment starting in May. Hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
