Mechanical Assembler - 1st Shift 5am-3:30pm M-Th - $23/hr - OT Opportunity

The Mechanical Assembler builds high-quality school furniture, including tables, desks, chairs, and large cafeteria tables, using hand and power tools in a fast-paced production environment. This is a contract-to-union opportunity on a 1st shift schedule, ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, reliable work history, and the ability to read measurements accurately.
Responsibilities

Assemble school tables, desks, chairs, and cafeteria tables according to production requirements and specifications.
Use hand and power tools, including screwdrivers, power drills, rivet guns, sockets, and wrenches, to build and secure components.
Measure, mark, and align parts accurately using a tape measure to ensure proper fit and assembly.
Drill and attach hinges, legs, arms, and other hardware to furniture components as required.
Follow assembly instructions, basic blueprints, or work orders to complete tasks correctly and efficiently.
Work on an assembly line and meet production goals while maintaining consistent quality standards.
Perform basic mechanical tasks such as fitting, fastening, and adjusting parts during the assembly process.
Inspect completed units for accuracy, stability, and finish, and make adjustments or corrections as needed.
Package assembled products or prepare them for the next stage in the production process.
Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle tools and equipment safely.
Follow all safety guidelines and procedures while working with hand and power tools.
Participate in required skills and tape measure testing and apply feedback to improve performance.
Essential Skills

Strong mechanical inclination and comfort working with mechanical components.
Proficiency using hand and power tools, including screwdrivers, power drills, rivet guns, sockets, and wrenches.
Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
Experience in assembly, mechanical assembly, or production environments.
Ability to work on an assembly line and meet production and quality expectations.
General labor experience in a manufacturing or similar setting.
High school diploma or GED.
Stable and consistent work history.
Ability to pass a tape measure test and a hands-on skills test.
Ability to work long hours when needed, including extended shifts on some Fridays in the spring and summer.
Ability to work in a warm environment where temperatures can reach 8090 degrees.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience assembling furniture or similar mechanical products.
Experience using basic blueprints or written work instructions for assembly.
Experience with packaging and preparing finished products for shipment.
Comfort working with repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong reliability, punctuality, and commitment to meeting production schedules.

Work Environment
This role operates in a well-lit manufacturing facility on a 1st shift schedule, typically Monday through Thursday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with additional required hours on some Fridays, especially in the spring and summer, which may be up to 10 hours. The environment can become very warm in the summer, with temperatures reaching 8090 degrees, so you must be comfortable working in the heat for extended periods. Work is hands-on and physical, involving standing for long periods, working on an assembly line, and regularly using hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, power drills, rivet guns, sockets, and wrenches. The facility emphasizes safety and organization, and attire should be practical and suitable for a production and manufacturing setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
