Mechanical Assembler
1st Shift (5:00am3:30pm MTh) | $23/hr + OT
The Mechanical Assembler builds high-quality school furnitureincluding tables, desks, chairs, and large cafeteria tablesin a fast-paced production environment. This is a contract-to-union opportunity on 1st shift, ideal for candidates with mechanical aptitude, strong tool skills, and the ability to accurately read measurements. The role offers overtime opportunities, structured union progression, and stable long-term employment.
Key Responsibilities
Assemble school tables, desks, chairs, and cafeteria tables to production specifications
Use hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, power drills, rivet guns, sockets, and wrenches
Measure, mark, and align components accurately using a tape measure
Drill and install hinges, legs, arms, and other hardware
Read and follow assembly instructions, basic blueprints, or work orders
Work on an assembly line while meeting daily production and quality targets
Perform fitting, fastening, and adjustment of mechanical components
Inspect finished units for accuracy, stability, and quality; make adjustments as needed
Package completed assemblies or stage them for the next production step
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Follow all safety procedures when using tools and equipment
Complete required tape-measure and hands-on skills tests and incorporate feedback
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong mechanical aptitude
Proficiency with hand and power tools
Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure
Experience in mechanical assembly, production, or manufacturing
Ability to work efficiently on an assembly line
General labor or manufacturing experience
High school diploma or GED
Stable and consistent work history
Ability to pass a tape-measure test and hands-on skills assessment
Willingness to work extended hours as needed, including some Fridays
Ability to work in warm conditions (8090F)
Work Environment
Well-lit manufacturing facility
Fast-paced, hands-on assembly line work
Standing for long periods while using hand and power tools
Warm temperatures during summer months (8090F)
Safety-focused and organized production setting
Practical, work-appropriate attire required

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
