Dental Assistant (Outpatient)

Assist the supervising dentist and Registered Dental Assistants with procedures within the scope of a Dental Assistant. This position is represented by RCHEA.
Line of Authority: Dental Assistant (Outpatient) - Clinic Manager
Education and Qualifications:
High School graduate or GED required
Current CPR Certification

Employee must conform with all HIPAA and other confidentiality regulations as required by the job, department, or hospital.
Equipment used: Basic biomedical (i.e. autoclave and sonic cleaner) and patient care equipment, computer, telephone/voicemail system, laser printer, photocopier, fax machine, radiographic equipment and processor.
This job requires frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching above shoulders, sitting, walking inclines and declines, standing, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive hand motions. Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will occasionally lift boxes and/or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. The employee must demonstrate lifting a 25-pound box from the floor.
Category 1 for potential exposure to blood and body fluids. Protective measures should be used while engaged in Category 1 tasks with exposure potential.
Job Roles:
Applies fluoride coating to teeth.
Assists in daily office functions such as answering phones, making appointments, registering patients and breaking down charts at the end of the day.
Assists in the scheduling of dental patients.
Examines orthodontic appliances.
Maintains and meets expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health (AH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and all other regulatory agencies.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Pours, trims, and polishes study casts.
Prepares patient for treatment.
Selects and hands instruments to the dentist during dental procedures.
Sets up the instrument trays used for each procedure.
Sterilizes and disinfects dental instruments, equipment and operatories between patients.
Suctions the patient's mouth.
Willingly performs other duties and innovations as assigned.
