Physical Therapist Assistant- Full Time

The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for providing treatments and therapy care according to the plan of treatment and care developed by the therapist in their particular therapy discipline in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This position works under and is supervised by a Physical Therapist per applicable Arizona rules and regulations and follows the plan of care developed by a Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapist Assistant will be able to appropriately provide for the needs of patients in a diversity of settings including: Acute care, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, and other areas relating to the scope of therapy practice.
Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:
Performs patient care under the direction of the Physical Therapist accurately implementing best evidence based practice guidelines/protocols.
Appropriately documents patient notes for all patients.
Appropriately documents patient evaluations and progress on a daily basis.
Communicates with Physical Therapists in a timely fashion.
Aids in implementation of new policies and procedures.
Addresses pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient and family concerns, demonstrating specific knowledge of the needs, development and care and/or treatment of the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient population.
Completes continuing competence for a two (2) year renewal period.
Adheres to applicable State of Arizona licensure statutes and applicable national standards such as but not limited to American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as required to maintain professional designation.
Displays proper etiquette and mannerisms as a provider and professional.
Effective communication with patients, families, and staff.
Maintains a safe and clean environment in the Physical Therapy department.
Promotes the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.
Secondary Functions / Responsibilities:
Participates in departmental and association wide informational meetings and in-services, including staff meetings, association wide forums, and seminars.
Reviews department and association wide policies and procedures annually. Develops and maintains new policies and procedures as needed.
Treats patients as guests by being courteous, making eye contact, smiling, introduction, and addresses people by name whenever possible.
Answers the telephone with a "smile". Identify yourself and ask how you can help the caller.
Effectively communicates with patients, families, and each other.
Keeps patients informed about their care and treatment plan.
Positively represents Summit Healthcare Association in the workplace and in the community
Additional / Seasonal Responsibilities:
Special projects as assigned, such as but not limited to chart audits, training within the department or organization, etc.
Abilities:
Demonstrated competence in: Biofeedback, Ultrasound, Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation, Functional Electrical Stimulation, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, Cervical Traction, Moist Hot Pack Machine, Cold Pack Machine, Pool, Whirlpool, Iontophoresis, Ultraviolet Therapy, Paraffin, Dynamometer and Goniometer, Low Level Laser Light Therapy.
Demonstrated competence in exercise machines: Hydrofitness, Stair Climber, Bikes, Treadmills, Ellipticals, Nu-Steps, Ultrasound Machine, SciFit, Hoist Machines (Leg Press, Lateral Pull Down, Pulleys), Chest Press, Row, Knee Extension, Ab Crunches.
Expertise in at least one specialty area of physical therapy including but not limited to: Pediatrics, Gender Healthcare, Geriatrics, Wound Care, Cardiopulmonary, Hand Therapy, Vestibular, Lymphedema, and Neurological Rehabilitation.
Must read, write, speak, and understand English.

Physical Demands
Exerts 30 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Required Education and Experience
Graduate from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) program (required).
Licensed in the state of Arizona.
High School diploma or equivalent (required).
CPR/BLS certification (within 30 days of hire).
ACLS certification.
OSHA Exposure Category:
Involves no regular exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but may require unplanned tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
This is a safety sensitive position.
