The Shop Sub Arc Welder is responsible for setting up and operating 'arc' welding machines.
Essential Functions
Setting up the arc welding machine, this includes aligning and adjusting the machine
Using the machine to weld materials together, as specified by blueprints, layouts, welding procedures, and operating charts
Selecting the correct voltage and power of the machine
Visually examining welds for adherence to specifications
Adjusting machine set up according to vary size, location, and penetration of bead
Rewelding defective joints, using hand-welding equipment
Preheating surfaces, using hand torch or heating furnaces
Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company's safety culture
Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
Education and Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
At least 3 years' experience as a Sub Arc Welder
Ability to pass a weld test
Skills / Key Competencies
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Knowledge of arithmetic
Knowledge of welding and metallurgy (SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments
results oriented
Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
Ability and willingness to travel as required
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
Ability to operate job related tools
Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
