Our Temporary Ballot Couriers perform the essential job of retrieving ballots from Ballot Drop Boxes and securely delivering them to our central warehouse for processing. The Temporary Ballot Courier position is a temporary assignment with Maricopa County before, during, and after the election cycle. This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked.
We Require:
This position requires a high school diploma or GED.
Must be a registered voter or have the ability to become a registered voter in the State of Arizona by the time of hire
Position may require the use of a county vehicle, which will require a valid driver's license, and attendance in Maricopa County's Defensive Driving Course
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
Must pass an applicable background screening
Must be able to work overtime as necessary
We Also Value:
One or more years of professional driving experience
One or more years of warehouse experience
One or more years of election experience
Job Contributions:
Audits are conducted when ballots arrive at the central warehouse, and ballots are prepared for transport
Works in teams of two representing different political affiliations (e.g. Republican and Democrat)
Retrieves ballots from Ballot Drop Boxes and securely delivers them to the central warehouse for processing
Completes a chain-of-custody form that is signed by a Polling Location or Vote Center Inspector to ensure the lawful hand-off and transportation of ballots
Assists other divisions of Elections with their daily functions and activities
Working Conditions:
Full-time/Temporary/Holiday/Overtime hours are mandatory during the election cycle
Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and to lift floor-to-shoulder and shoulder-to-waist up to 25 pounds, and carry for 100 feet
Requires the ability to push/pull a minimum of up to 50 pounds for 100 feet and to stoop and bend
This work utilizes upper extremity repetitive motions
The employee in this position may be required to utilize a county vehicle to travel within Maricopa County
Work may be performed outdoors in high temperatures or indoors
The employee in this position must not engage in any political discussion
