
Diesel & Trailer Mechanic (Fleet Maintenance - Tire Work Required)

Legacy, Inc., a growing 48-state refrigerated carrier based in Springfield, MO, is seeking a Diesel & Trailer Mechanic. We operate a small in-house maintenance shop focused on preventive maintenance, inspections, tire maintenance, and routine truck and trailer repairs.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Diesel & Trailer Mechanic position in Springfield, MO. This is a hands-on role responsible for performing basic to intermediate maintenance and repairs on company-owned tractors and refrigerated trailers.
Due to the current shop size and equipment limitations, this role focuses on PMs, DOT inspections, brakes, tires, minor mechanical repairs, and troubleshooting. Major engine, transmission, and advanced diagnostic work is outsourced. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently in a small shop and willing to perform regular tire service as part of the job.
Key Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance (PMs) on tractors and trailers
Conduct DOT inspections and ensure equipment compliance
Perform tire work, including mounting, dismounting, repairing, and replacing (required)
Brake service on trucks and trailers
Identify mechanical issues and coordinate outsourced repairs when needed
Maintain accurate service and repair documentation
Communicate equipment status with operations and management
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
Follow all company safety policies and procedures
Qualifications
Experience working on diesel-powered semi-trucks and refrigerated trailers
Willingness and ability to perform tire work are required
Familiarity with PM schedules, DOT inspections, and brake systems
Ability to work independently in a small-shop environment
Basic troubleshooting and mechanical repair skills
Strong attention to detail and safety
Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
Small, limited-space maintenance shop
Focus on routine and preventative maintenance
Heavy, complex, or specialized repairs are outsourced
This position is hands-on and physical and includes tire handling
