College of Social Science Help Rooms Assistant Program Coordinator
Position Description
The College of Social Science, Office of Student Success, is hiring a part-time 20-hour per week Assistant Program Coordinator to begin in August 2026. This position supports the Social Science Help Rooms by assisting with the coordination of the College of Social Science Help Rooms and the Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Program, while also contributing to other initiatives within the Office of Student Success as needed. Specifically, we are looking to hire a first year Master’s student or a first or second year PhD student.
The Assistant Program Coordinator will gain experience in program coordination, student staff supervision, and assessment related to academic support and student success initiatives.
Duties
Provide day‑to‑day coordination of the Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Program and the Economics Help Rooms (peer tutoring program).
Schedule and oversee the work of PAL Leaders and student tutors.
Assist with the recruitment, selection, and training of PAL Leaders and tutors.
Support the development of monthly professional development workshops, biannual finals‑week events, and other miscellaneous activities related to academic support services.
Observe PAL Leaders and Economics Help Room tutors during study sessions and provide constructive feedback. When sessions are not observed, review weekly lesson plans and provide feedback.
Provide supervision, guidance, and support to PAL Leaders and Economics Help Room tutors.
Assist with administrative tasks such as managing schedules, entering program data, and preparing program materials.
Assist with assessment efforts by gathering information and preparing summaries related to academic support services, including both quantitative and qualitative evaluation of Help Room services.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and current enrollment in a graduate program in a related field such as education, social science, or higher education administration.
Experience working with academic support programs, tutoring programs, or student success initiatives preferred.
Interest in supporting student success in higher education.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of
Operations, programs, and services associated with academic support programs.
Study strategies and active learning techniques.
Instructional and tutoring methods applicable to a diverse range of students, including those with physical, emotional, and learning disabilities.
