Creative Financial Staffing (CFS) is partnering with a well-established, national organization to identify a Director of Accounts Payable to lead and modernize a high-volume AP function. This is a highly visible leadership role reporting to the CFO, offering the opportunity to drive process improvements, manage a distributed team, and play a key role in cash flow optimization and financial operations.

Position Overview
The Director of Accounts Payable will oversee all day-to-day AP operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices, maintaining strong internal controls, and continuously improving efficiency across the function. This individual will serve as the primary point of contact for internal business partners and external vendors and will be a hands-on leader who can balance strategy with execution.
Key Responsibilities of the Director of Accounts Payable Role:
- Lead and manage the full Accounts Payable function, including invoice processing, vendor management, chargebacks, and business unit support
- Oversee and develop a geographically distributed AP team, including performance management, training, and staffing decisions
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and related adjustments
- Manage month-end close activities for AP, including reconciliations and reporting
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual AP reports; proactively identify risks and improvement opportunities
- Serve as the “face” of Accounts Payable, delivering high levels of service to internal stakeholders and external vendors
- Monitor AP workflows and resolve issues impacting payment accuracy or timeliness
- Oversee outsourced AP services and ensure performance standards are met
- Lead and support AP-related system implementations, process changes, and special projects
- Partner with the CFO and Finance leadership to support cash flow management and operational initiatives
Qualifications for the Director of Accounts Payable:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of progressive Accounts Payable experience
- Prior experience leading large or complex AP teams
- Accounting designation (CPA or similar) preferred but not required
- Experience in retail, distribution, or high-volume environments preferred
- Proven experience with AP transformation, system implementations, or process redesign
- Strong leadership presence with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and manage competing priorities
- Solid project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills

- Target salary: $135,000–$145,000 (commensurate with experience)
