Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library District, Lansing, MI, United States
Are you passionate about connecting people with information, technology, and engaging programs? We’re seeking a collaborative, service-oriented librarian to join our Information Services team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys collection development, reader’s advisory, technology assistance, and creating meaningful experiences for the community.
The Information Services Librarian is responsible for developing and maintaining collections and programs, providing information and research assistance, delivering instruction, and supporting reader services in accordance with library policies and best practices.
Key Responsibilities Perform collection management including selection, promotion, weeding, and maintenance
Coordinate materials for homebound patrons
Plan, implement, and evaluate programs and services for adults
Assist in developing departmental goals, procedures, and services
Support department operations in the manager’s absence
Train and guide staff with daily workflows
Deliver professional reference and reader’s advisory services
Assist with study room scheduling and usage
Help manage the library’s license plate sticker program
Create displays and digital promotional materials
Process holds, maintain newspapers, and update department forms
Oversee website resource accuracy
Participate in outreach, committees, and library-wide initiatives
Maintain a welcoming, organized public service environment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent communication and customer service skills
Strong technology troubleshooting and teaching abilities
Knowledge of print and digital reference resources
Familiarity with adult reading, viewing, and listening interests
Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently or collaboratively
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with interruptions
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push carts up to 150 pounds
Proficiency with Google Workspace, Apple products, and general software applications
Qualifications Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science (required)
Minimum one year of library experience
Experience with an automated ILS (SirsiDynix preferred)
Minimum one year of customer service experience
Availability for days, evenings, weekends, and some holidays
Reliable transportation and proof of car insurance required
Benefits Annual Vacation Accrual: 2 weeks per year (starting January, prorated based on start date)
Annual Sick Accrual: 12 days per year
Personal Time: 3 days per year
10 paid holidays per year
