
Welding Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop new welding technologies related to new products requirements.
Guide design, develop, and tests welding methods, materials, processes, and results.
Support Operations in acquiring the needed level of equipment knowledge.
Specify welding equipment, welding consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic systems, and any related components associated with the welding process.
Develop welding quality control process and team with Quality Assurance in maintaining weld integrity. Interface with manufacturing and maintenance to resolve welding system issues.
Team with Project Engineers on new and existing programs to resolve issues/concerns and meet deadlines within budget.
Monitor process of the integration, debugging and validation of Plant welding equipment and systems.
Champion assigned engineering changes accordingly to customer and company requirements.
Train, coach and mentor the technical Plant staff including Engineers and Skilled Trades of new or improved welding processes.
Direct and/or participate in root cause analysis and team problem solving activities (8D reports, department meetings, etc.).
Review and resolve all weld cut/etch and destruct related issues.
Initiate cross-functional equipment design reviews.
Support new model launches, tool tryouts at suppliers, and in-house capability runs.
Availability for 20-30% domestic travel.
This role is part of a team with 5 Welding Engineers and reports to the Corporate Welding Engineering Manager.
SUCCESS FACTORS:
Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering or other technical/mechanical degree.
3-5 years’ of experience as a Welding Engineer in automotive industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience in automotive industry.
Demonstrate knowledge of problem-solving, root-cause analysis, and process optimization of welding equipment in manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with APQP, PFMEA,PPAP and other Quality documentation.
Display productive collaboration within multi-disciplinary teams to resolve welding issues/concerns.
Effective verbal and written communication skills with all internal/external customers.
Advanced proficiency with MSOffice, QAD, SAP or similar systems.
