Position Summary
EHS Manager – Experience supporting EHS programs within the
electrical services, power systems, or industrial electrical environments.
The EHS Manager is responsible for overseeing all EHS corporate initiatives, federal and local EHS compliance for the Midcentral region (the position can be based out various locations including Columbus, Des Moines, Chicago, Cedar Rapids, Omaha, Detroit, and Kansas City). The region is comprised of eight departments in the Midcentral region of North America. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, CPR, First Aid, AED, Emergency Response and any other regulations for the sites or customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have 8 – 10 years’ experience in EHS management for multiple sites. This role provides EHS support to field employees, department operations managers, and regional vice president.
Responsibilities
Perform EHS audits of field locations in a manner that provides support and learning for field employees. This includes an understanding of the electrical work being performed and protective equipment required for the employees.
Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, this is not a “behind the desk” job and may need to travel last-minute, support outages for clients, work on weekends to support clients.
Provide safety training (could include electrical, fall, forklift and aerial), schedule third party training, partner with Shermco’s workforce development team to ensure training is completed for EHS per program requirements. Keep professional training updated for client needs (such as having a TWIC or current area safety counsel training).
Respond in timely manner to leadership requests via email, phone, Teams and in person when needed based upon leadership or client requests.
Support other regions as needed if EHS audits are needed or support is needed in other regions in the US and Canada.
Experienced in incident investigation (such as TapRooT and five-why) and incident management, write investigation reports, use software to document incidents, work with teams to develop action items for prevention measures, follow-up on case management and complete action items required per investigations.
Manage electrical safety program for the region to include the use of Proxxi devices to prevent electrical contact.
Able to write site specific safety plans for client locations, implement client safety plans and comply with client specific documentation.
Review and edit internal EHS documents when necessary to enable an updated EHS Management System.
Provide solutions for regional issues and communicate quickly with manager regarding any issues for the region.
Experienced and skilled communicator both verbally and in writing (emails, PowerPoint, Teams, text messages, and calling). Able to communicate and lead training courses when needed, able to use Outlook to set up meetings on a regular basis to communicate EHS updates to region, and able to support EHS Director for special assignments.
Required
Experienced working in the electrical, utility, or energy industry.
Minimum 8-10 years of experience managing EHS compliance in a multi-state operation and fast paced environment.
Safety certification, CSP, and regulatory knowledge pertaining to EHS.
Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and OSHA 30.
Experienced conducting EHS audits in an environment with
electrical work.
Proven record in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Physical conditions include ability to lift 50 lbs., stand, and stay on your feet while in the field in hot and cold temperatures and diverse types of weather.
Reliable and able to attend and engage in regular weekly and monthly meetings with the EHS team and VPs.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and EHS digital tools to capture metrics.
Skilled in communicating with operations, managers, and executive level.
Responsible for implementation of EHS programs in the region, following EHS policies, ensuring data accuracy for Midcontinent region, writing, and presenting data, understanding EHS trends from regional audits, identifying risk reduction strategies, accountable for EHS procurement of PPE, training, and meeting EHS metrics for the Midcentral region.
Preferred:
Experience of supporting multiple departments, multiple operations managers, or multiple business units.
Experienced in delivering various training based upon OSHA and NFPA 70E requirements.
Experienced and flexible in working for various clients with different EHS site requirements for EHS documentation, safety requirements, and safety training.
Understand human and organizational performance and/or behavior-based safety.
