Our higher education client is seeking an experienced

Director of Grants & Contracts

for an immediate contract opportunity. This role will provide leadership and oversight for grants and contracts administration, ensuring compliance with institutional, sponsor, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in research administration, post-award management, policy interpretation, and cross-functional collaboration within a college or university environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead grants and contracts administration functions for sponsored programs within a higher education environment.
Oversee post-award activities including award setup, budget monitoring, invoicing, financial reporting, compliance tracking, and closeout.
Review and interpret grant and contract terms to ensure alignment with sponsor guidelines, institutional policies, and applicable regulations.
Advise faculty, principal investigators, and administrative leaders on sponsored project management, compliance requirements, and financial controls.
Monitor portfolio performance, identify risks, and resolve issues related to billing, reporting, allowability, effort, and award administration.
Partner with finance, research administration, compliance, and academic departments to support effective grant lifecycle management.
Develop, document, and improve processes, procedures, and internal controls related to grants and contracts operations.
Support audits and prepare documentation for internal and external review.
Provide leadership, guidance, and training to staff involved in grants and contracts administration.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
7+ years of progressive experience in grants and contracts administration, preferably within higher education, research, or sponsored programs.
Strong knowledge of sponsored research administration, post-award management, and compliance requirements.
Experience interpreting federal, state, private, and institutional grant regulations and contract terms.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex awards, budgets, reporting requirements, and cross-functional stakeholder relationships.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Proficiency with ERP systems, grants management tools, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a college or university research environment.
Familiarity with federal grant regulations and audit support.
Proven leadership experience overseeing staff or major grants operations.
