The Environmental, Health & Safety Coordinator
will provide direction and support necessary to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations and EHS standards to meet or exceed relevant internal and external environmental, health and safety standards in a manner consistent with sound business practices. The EHS Coordinator will also assist in directing the development, implementation and maintenance of comprehensive environmental, health and safety programs and promote continuous improvement. Auditing, conducting gap analyses and determining/implementing corrective actions is an integral function for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety Leadership
Be a "trusted EHS advisor", for related programs, regulatory requirements, and activities for the company.
Communicate EHS needs and results to the EHS&S Director and Plant Leadership.
Maintain a collaborative partnership with all levels of Operations to execute company EHS programs and processes to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
Maintain liaison with Operations to ensure that EHS issues are identified, solutions coordinated and tracked to closure; engage with teams to ensure EHS roles, responsibilities and expectations are understood and followed by all personnel.
Observes/implements and enforces all environmental, health, safety and security procedures.
Organize safety initiatives and events in the facility to promote a culture of safety first.
Take a lead role in administering Safety Committee(s) to help reduce the risk of workplace injuries and ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations.
Improve and maintain our behavioral based safety program.
Provide technical support and regulatory guidance for, but not limited to, the following programs: DOT, RCRA, SPCC, HazCom, ERP, Respiratory Protection, Fall Protection, Confined Space, NFPA and Air Permit requirements.
Identify safety hazards and recognize when safety conditions need improvement. Ability to work through and identify the root cause of any problem and communicate accordingly.
Training
Provide Safety Training to ensure that employees (both site specific and company-wide) receive required training, including but not limited to: RCRA, SPCC, HazCom, ERP, Respiratory Protection, Fall Protection, Confined Space, and Air Permit requirements.
Manage safety-training metrics to ensure compliance with respective programs.
Deliver Environmental, Health, and Safety advice at all levels and to deliver localized training to staff as required.
Create awareness and educate our employees by providing regular mentoring/coaching and through consistent sharing of success stories and best practices.
Reporting
Oversee the tracking and monitoring of EH&S performance metrics and assist in all EH&S reporting.
Ensure logging of accidents, injuries, near misses, safety observations and audit finding information is completed in a timely manner; maintain company EH&S KPIs.
Analyze EHS metrics and trends to provide proposed action plans for continual improvement.
Provide detailed reports and develop safety procedures.
Sites Support
Approximately 40-60% of the role will be on-site interfacing with the workforce demonstrating safety leadership and providing the workforce with on-going safety coaching through recognition of risk accepting behaviors, erosion of standards, and depth of penetration of safety initiatives.
Lead efforts to reduce hazardous waste generation and source reduction.
Work with operations to perform hazard (Risk) assessments and evaluations; implement risk reduction/mitigation strategies as appropriate and approve hot work permits.
Communication of incidents, advise and consult on care management. Lead or support investigations of EH&S incidents, the analysis of root cause(s), support/track the implementation of effective corrective actions, and prepare communications to share the lessons learned from such events across the company
Collaborate with the EHS Manager to leverage global safety and environmental best practices.
Any and all other duties and tasks assigned.
Compliance
Plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.
Conduct environmental and safety inspections; formulate corrective or preventative actions and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
Assist support sites during audits from regulatory agencies or third parties
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Engineering, or Occupational Safety from an accredited College/ University or related field a plus.
Associate degree from an accredited program in Safety Related Administration or a combination of equivalent education, chemical / manufacturing experience may be substituted for educational requirement.
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Manufacturing/Distribution environment required.
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in working with EHS Regulations required.
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office programs preferred
Experience with enterprise business systems; Chempax or related ERP systems preferred.

Physical Demands/ Working & Environmental Conditions:
Position requires occasional long hours, work in the evenings, occasional weekends or holidays when needed.
General office environment including standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending, or crouching and use of hands to grasp, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, lift/ pick up and type.
Physical ability to stand and walk for long periods.
Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb. net weight in bags, boxes and/or pallets for short distances periodically.
Ability to work in a production plant environment with fumes, dirt, dust, noise, and hazardous chemicals daily. May require safety equipment and/or precautions.
Must be able to pass company’s Drug & Alcohol Screenings.
