Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Neurocritical Care team. This full-time position involves rotating day and night shifts, providing 24/7 coverage within one of the country's most advanced neuroscience programs.

As a Neurocritical Care APP, you will manage a diverse and complex population of critically ill neurological patients, including those with neurological emergencies, ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, brain tumors, CNS infections, seizures, spinal cord injuries, and post-operative neurosurgical conditions. You will work alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team in a state-of-the-art Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, collaborating closely with a team of 13 top-tier Neurointensivists.

The

Inova Neurocritical Care team

is a high-acuity service composed 13 Neurointensivists and 10 Neurocritical Care APPs. As a quaternary care center with 18 neuroscience ICU beds and 10 neuro-IMC beds, we serve the largest volume of critically ill neurological patients in the greater Washington, D.C., metro area-delivering cutting-edge, evidence-based care.

Neurocritical Care, Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Job Responsibilities:

As an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Neurocritical Care team, you will play a vital role in managing critically ill neurological patients, including those requiring advanced life support and continuous intensive neuromonitoring in a high-acuity setting. Perform advanced clinical procedures and assessments within scope of practice and in alignment with established protocols. Procedures include intubation, central line and arterial line placement, lumbar punctures, etc.

Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds with physicians, residents, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, therapists, dietitians, and social workers

Collaborate with specialists across medical and surgical services to optimize care plans and patient outcomes

Facilitate daily bedside rounds with patients and families, supporting clear communication and shared decision-making

Additional Requirements:

Work schedule:

12-hour shift (Monday - Sunday, rotating days 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and nights 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM). Willingness to work rotating day and night shifts is required.

Education:

Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program.

Certification: Current

national certification (PA-C or AGACNP-BC/ACNP-BC), BLS and ACLS certification through the AHA required.

Licensure:

Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances)

Payer Credentialing:

Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and Ability to enroll as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor

Medical Staff Credentialing:

Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of one year of critical care experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Candidates who are interested in working exclusively night shifts or a hybrid schedule of half days and half nights.
