You\'ll play a pivotal role in maintaining the heartbeat of the world\'s most innovative technology platform, ensuring seamless data center operations that power millions of businesses and services worldwide. The Data Center Technician role involves in-depth hardware and network diagnostics followed by physical repair as well as participating in an on-call rotation. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the innovations they rely on.
You\'ll join a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You\'ll collaborate across AWS to deliver high safety and security standards while providing capacity at the lowest possible cost, in an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Note: PDX is an AWS GovCloud region. As required by our contracts with the federal government, logical access to the AWS GovCloud region will be restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. Citizens. GovCloud may NOT be accessed from outside the United States. Lump sum stipend is provided to eligible candidates who relocate for this position.
Key responsibilities

Perform server rack installations, hardware break-fix on components, troubleshoot network issues, and respond to operational incidents that impact service availability.
Carry out routine network, server hardware, and operating system repairs to contribute to overall AWS service availability.
Serve as a primary contact point for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
Perform on-call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities.
Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues.
Assist with interview, training, and onboarding of new team members.
Physical requirements

Lifting and moving material up to 40 pounds.
Working in cramped and/or elevated locations.
Bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching; standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day.
Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely.
Work in an industrial environment; shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations.
May be assigned to facilities under development and travel to established locations for training until the site is fully operational.
Essential requirements

Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until the assigned facility is operational.
Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and facility status.
Candidates must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

— Work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays; 18+ months of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience; 18+ months of computer layer 1/2 networking experience (including troubleshooting and repair).
Preferred Qualifications

— Experience in a data center or other critical environment; Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent professional or military IT experience; industry standard certifications (CompTIA, CCENT, Network+); understanding of Linux or similar operating systems; behavioral interviewing and hiring experience; experience training and onboarding new team members.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and RSUs. Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
