Center Operations Specialist

Responsibilities and Duties

Execute day‑to‑day Center operational procedures, ensuring a cost‑effective, safe, welcoming and clean environment. Monitor and maintain facilities and equipment so they are well‑maintained and ready‑to‑use. Enforce sanitary and food‑handling guidelines and regulations.

Engage and interact with Center visitors, serving as a subject matter expert about Center amenities, tours, programs and services; troubleshoot to resolve issues. May direct and manage vendors.

Help maintain Center operations within budget, monitor and report on inventory, handle cash, and provide data for financial, operational and statistical reports. Deliver ad‑hoc reports as requested.

Create and maintain a Standard Operating Procedure file that details local operational procedures and Center activities to enable prompt reporting, easy rotation and follow‑on.

As directed, plan, oversee, and lead execution of operational areas which may include programs, logistics, inventory management, budget, social media and database management.

Assist with operations and program communications and awareness, compiling and preparing announcements, stories and photos for social media, local media representatives and website publications, ensuring content conforms to USO media guidelines.

Plan and evaluate new and existing USO programs, activities and events on and off US military installations, coordinating all functions, materials and assets to ensure effective and efficient operations.

Assist in reviewing USO programs and service needs within the assigned area, researching and recommending new programs and services; implement resulting changes.

Develop and maintain working relationships with the U.S. Military, local community leaders, partners, donors and media representatives to enhance awareness and support of the USO mission.

Coordinate with Center colleagues to ensure resources such as volunteers, materials and supplies are available for all programs, events and activities; oversee volunteer participation.

Communicate volunteer information, including shift openings, policy changes, and development opportunities; maintain and generate reports from the volunteer database.

Guide prospective volunteers through the application process, coordinate job training, implement volunteer recognition events, run reports for recognition, and submit nominations.

May be required to operate a USO or personal motor vehicle.

Other duties as assigned, including backfilling for Center Operations Manager or other positions.

Job Specifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

2+ years of work experience in event management, marketing, retail, customer service, recreation facility or related role; experience in a non‑profit, military, multicultural or global organization is preferred.

Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem‑solving skills with ability to interact with USO Leadership, the general public and military audiences.

Proficiency with computers and electronic equipment; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and also volunteer management software and social media platforms (Digital Cheetah experience preferred).

Ability to exercise sound judgment in culturally sensitive situations and handle confidential information discreetly.

Initiative, self‑motivation, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.

Collaboration and teamwork skills.

Basic math proficiency and understanding of cash/donation handling, budgeting and project management.

Willingness to work non‑standard hours as needed.

General knowledge of military community preferred.

Ability to obtain and maintain credentials for access to USO Center locations, including security, credit, background screening, SOFA status, and a valid driver’s license.

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport and foreign driver’s license where required.

Strong advocacy for the USO’s mission.

Details

Location:

San Diego International Airport ; preference for local candidates within commuting distance.

Salary range: $48,300–$69,000.
