Responsibilities
Maintain safe and uninterrupted HVAC services in accordance with state codes and life safety standards.
Plan, schedule, and supervise installation, adjustments, repairs, and renovations of chilled water, direct exchange, refrigerated, heating, and ventilation systems.
Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, and testing of HVAC equipment, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, fans, pumps, and controls.
Use data from monitoring systems to develop long‑range maintenance plans and recommend energy‑efficient upgrades.
Assign, prioritize, and lead the work of other HVAC staff and support technicians.
Document all work, including performance records, repairs, and material usage, in the designated electronic system.
Coordinate parts and material procurement and ensure tools are properly cleaned, stored, and maintained.
Assist with air‑quality sampling, environmental monitoring, and response to energy‑consumption anomalies.
Respond to after‑hours and weekend callouts as required; work overtime in accordance with agency policy.
Support agency obligations for disaster response, continuity of operations, and other ad‑hoc duties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Effective oral and written communication with team members and other staff.
Basic mathematical computations.
Capacity to perform labor‑intensive work, standing, bending, lifting 50‑100 pounds, and operating in hot/cold or confined spaces.
Ability to lead and train other employees on HVAC equipment and tools.
Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems and life‑safety codes.
Licensure, Certifications, and Education
Valid Texas driver’s license required within 90 days of hire.
EPA Section 608 Technician Certification, Universal, required.
R410A certification preferred; must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
Other HVAC or refrigeration certifications (e.g., NATE, HVAC Excellence, contractor licenses) preferred.
Minimum 12 months experience as an HVAC mechanic or technician, preferably in commercial systems.
High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in HVAC or related field preferred.
Experience with blueprints, HVAC tools, and repairing refrigeration units, walk‑in freezers, and boilers/steam systems.
Other Requirements
Must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks.
All employees subject to random drug testing.
May be required to work over‑time, weekends, holidays, or in shift rotations.
