Sponsor Portfolio Coverage Group (SPCG) is a Client Coverage team within Capital Management in Corporate Banking, responsible for Sponsor-owned portfolio company coverage. The team partners with Global Asset Managers (GAM), Sector and Product Investment Banking teams and works closely with Underwriting and Risk.

The role is a Corporate Banking Coverage leadership position responsible for defining and implementing a strategy for our existing and growing portfolio on how to deliver Citi’s entire product offering. The role’s success is measured by connectivity at portfolio companies, wins for episodic revenues along with growth in flow revenues, balanced credit and risk application acting as 1st line of defense. Relevant experience and skills include Corporate finance, Risk and Capital Management, a strategic One Citi mindset. Enablers for success include development of client relationships, strong partnerships with product partners and junior team members whilst maintaining a high degree of focus on risk and controls on this critical portfolio. This role reports to the NAM and LATAM Head of Capital Management within Citi’s Corporate Bank.

Responsibilities

Primary day-to-day CB Coverage Banker responsibilities for the portfolio

Develop and execute client and product strategies relevant to the Sponsor Portfolio Clients including financing, derivatives, foreign exchange and cash management solutions

Own the first line of defense responsibility for assessing the credit risk of portfolio companies in order to define Citi’s risk appetite

Work with TTS and Markets to determine risk appetite as well as risk mitigation strategies for new origination

Prioritize resources and client tiering and develop an appropriate coverage plan

Manage overall client relationships and provide a wide range of treasury and corporate finance solutions across the ICG offering, and support advisory efforts by building and maintaining Trusted Advisor relationships with client seniors

Meet revenue goals, returns hurdles and other targets related to budget, risk management, and credit allocation in partnership with Banking, Product and Risk

Ensure client relationships and proposed solutions meet or exceed internal risk and return standards, including stringent ethical standards and anticipated future changes in the marketplace

Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the Firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citi, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, and applying sound ethical judgement regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices

Escalate, manage and report control issues with transparency, supervise the activity of direct & matrix reports as well as the broader team, and create accountability for those who fail to maintain these standards

Collaborate with GAM to understand and manage Sponsor/General Partner requirements

Collaborate with Leveraged Finance for transaction origination and execution

Collaborate with Markets to deliver hedging, structured finance and distribution solutions

Collaborate with TTS to ensure optimal deployment of Citi’s global cash management and working capital solutions

Collaborate with Risk and Transaction Management to ensure seamless execution

Qualifications

12+ years of relevant experience

Business Senior Credit Officer preferred (or achievable in near term)

Experience in people management

Strong corporate finance skills

In-depth experience advising clients on debt and capital management, markets solutions and other strategic solutions across institutional products

Strong understanding of how to navigate Citi’s Network to deliver results on TTS and Markets requirements

Demonstrated ability to balance time between internal management and client coverage

Demonstrated understanding of compliance issues and regulatory requirements

Proven leadership skills and intellectual capability to create momentum and a collective agenda across multiple products with a diverse population and competing priorities

Demonstrated intellectual grasp of the Leveraged Credit and Sponsor relationship complexities

Proven analytical and problem‑solving skills with a pragmatic approach to ensure limited resources are directed appropriately

Consistently demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication

Series 79 and 63 required

Education

Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
