ABOUT SHAC
The Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a community-based health care organization that provides high-quality, professional, and accessible medical, mental health, dental, and health promotion and education services to students at Portland State University (PSU). SHAC employs over 100 clinical and administrative professionals to serve approximately 20,000 eligible PSU students.
ABOUT SHAC’S HEALTH PROMOTION & EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
Health promotion is a vital component of the healthcare continuum: a proactive approach to health care that stresses prevention using various strategies with the ultimate goal of keeping people well. The focus of health promotion rests in comprehensive community level interventions that are aimed to influence the environment in which people live, work, and learn.
This work is accomplished through health promotion programs through planned, organized events and activities that empower people over time to make informed decisions regarding their health. This is achieved primarily in-person with potentially some incorporated virtual components. Health educators enhance learning experience for individuals through workshops, classes, individual sessions, and outreach events.
In addition, Health Promotion is a key player in assisting communities along the path of optimal wellbeing by advocating for policy change/development and organizational support.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Health Promotion Operations Support position works to serve the Portland State University (PSU) student community through providing administrative support to the Health Promotion & Education Department’s programs and services. This position will provide support for the Health Promotion Mind Spa, Student Wellbeing Lounge, Nap Rooms, and the Peer Recovery Center. Support includes, but is not limited to, answering phone calls / emails / student questions about each space, checking students in/out, keeping the spaces clean and fully stocked with supplies.
Duration
Fall Term 2026 – Spring Term 2027, students are encouraged to reapply each year.
