Temp Maintenance Worker / Stormwater

This is a non-exempt, seasonal, position limited to 1,300 hours annually. The Temporary Maintenance Worker - Stormwater position is under the supervision of the Stormwater Utility Maintenance Supervisor, or Stormwater Crew Leader. The Temporary Maintenance Worker - Stormwater performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled manual and labor tasks and equipment operation.

This job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the functions and tasks required of the position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Operates light to heavy-duty trucks and equipment, including dump trucks, to haul rock, gravel, sand, and dirt

Assists in loading and unloading materials, supplies, tools, debris, and dirt

Transports debris from stormwater drainageways to the landfill

Cleans, maintains, and repairs storm sewers, manholes, drains, and catch basins

Builds, pours, and finishes concrete forms

Operates air compressors and generators

Utilizes a pick, shovel, jackhammer, and tamper

Digs ditches

Operates manual and power weed cutters and applies non-restricted chemicals to remove weeds from City property and drainage

Operates chain saws and hand saws to trim trees and shrubs and to remove brush

Operates various hand, power, and riding mowers to cut grass and mulch

Removes leaves and trash from City property

Maintains landscapes

Performs daily equipment inspections

Performs minor repairs to trucks and equipment

Compiles daily activity reports including materials used and work accomplished

Performs related duties as required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical standards an employee must meet in order to perform the essential job duties with or without a reasonable accommodation include, but are not limited to:

Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 pounds, frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 100 pounds

Frequently standing and walking for prolonged periods of time to observe for safety hazards and perform daily functions

Using manual dexterity to manipulate supplies, tools, and equipment

Using visual acuity (near/distant, color, depth perception and at night) to read operating manuals and instructions, field or construction drawings, safely operate a vehicle and equipment; identify hazards; and perform daily functions

Frequently performing activities requiring a full range of body movements including sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crawling, twisting, and balancing

Ability to deal with moderate levels of stress including field traffic situations, irate citizens, other employees

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of mathematical computations and tabulations, sufficient to perform the essential functions, which include basic arithmetic, division, and multiplication

Knowledge of and ability to use common hand and power tools

Ability to read a map

Ability to follow oral and written directions

Ability to transmit data via two-way communications units (radio)

Ability to learn how to safely and properly operate light to heavy-duty trucks, including the operation of a dump truck

Ability to learn to maintain, and construct storm sewers, manholes, drains and catch basins

Ability to learn to operate jackhammers, picks, shovels, tampers, air compressors, generators, and other common labor tools

Ability to learn to operate power and riding mowers, including brush hogs and gang mowers

Ability to learn to operate power trimmers, chain saws and other power tools

Ability to learn to make minor mechanical repairs on trucks and equipment

Ability to physically perform the duties of the position, including lifting equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 lbs

Skill in the safe and lawful operation of a motor vehicle

Ability to perform all the job duties in a safe manner

REQUIREMENTS

Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older

Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America

A valid driver’s license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver’s license within 30 days of employment

License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification

During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience working in labor or outdoor positions

Experience with hand and power tools

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employees must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen. The individual will be required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment.
