Graduate/certificate of completion from a recognized Medical Assistant program
OR
a high school diploma + 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in physician practice within the past three years.
Medical Assistant certification required
Arrange pre‑op testing for patients
Arrange the physicians' schedule around their surgeries
Assist other areas of the office as needed
Assist with patient procedures (e.g., suture removal, wart/mole removal, pap smears, colposcopies, minor surgeries, etc.; administer EKGs and Rhythm Strips, injections, immunizations, vision and hearing tests, measurement of O2 saturations and venipunctures, and other specialty‑related procedures as required by the practice).
Complete FMLA paperwork
Contact hospital and outside sources regarding lab results, X‑Ray results, and ER reports; phone pharmacies to authorize prescriptions; contact nursing homes regarding patient orders; contact patients to relay test result information; return patients' phone calls with provider's recommendations for their care.
Pre‑certify hospital admissions and referrals
Disinfect exam rooms, procedure room, and laboratory
Escort patients to exam rooms and check vital signs as needed
Record reason for visit, reconcile current medications with established medication profile, verify allergies
Instruct patients on how to prepare for examination
Obtain the necessary authorization prior to surgery
Prepare exam rooms for patients; prepare procedure tray as necessary
Schedule all surgeries and offsite diagnostic tests
