Security Guard
Position Summary
Provides general security services to the campus and assists campus police officers with routine patrols and other security measures.
Essential Job Functions / Job Duties and Responsibilities
Perform duties at the assigned campus or work location.
Patrol campus by foot, bicycle or motor vehicle.
Identify and report suspected crimes, accidents or questionable activities.
Report accidents involving persons or property, provide probable cause, pursue appropriate action and inform proper authorities.
Provide security for special events.
Write citations for parking violations.
Provide direction and/or instruction to faculty, staff and students in unusual or emergency situations.
Participate in campus training for emergencies and for law enforcement officers.
Monitor classrooms, offices and buildings for safety and maintenance concerns.
Maintain and utilize security equipment.
Maintain department records and prepare reports.
May testify in court or during legal proceedings as needed.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Valid Tennessee driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior security or law enforcement experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work in varying conditions, including indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Good customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff and student population. Demonstrated self‑restraint in challenging and/or difficult situations. Demonstrated problem‑solving skills. Ability to occasionally travel throughout the service area as needed. Shifts and campus assignments vary and are based on current need.
Additional Information
Open until filled: Yes. Pay: $31,239.00 to $37,479.00 annually, depending on experience. Work hours: 37.5 hours per week. Applicants may be subject to a background check. Unofficial transcripts acceptable for the application process; official transcripts required upon hire.
