Qualifications

Valid Washington State Teacher’s certificate with endorsements in social studies, history, economics, and/or humanities. Endorsement in English if not endorsed in humanities.

Additional middle level endorsements preferred.

Evidence of successful middle level teaching experience.

Evidence of training and experience utilizing computer technology for grading, attendance, word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, e‑mail, and incorporating these technologies into daily classroom instruction.

Evidence of frequent incorporation of writing within the content area in daily classroom instruction.

Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels.

Evidence of providing for student individual learning styles (basic levels and extension beyond basics).

Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.

Dynamic, student‑involving, hands‑on instruction style.

Understanding of the Common Core State Standards.

Willingness to participate in inclusionary practices (Co‑Teach, Co‑Plan or other models).

Bilingual preferred.

Job Description

Teach humanities.

Prepare for classes assigned and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.

Deliver instruction that meets Washington State standards.

Create a safe and positive learning environment for all students.

Adhere to all West Valley School District and West Valley Middle School policies and expectations.

Actively engage students in the learning process.

Incorporate higher‑level thinking and analytical skills in instruction, assessment, and daily performance.

Be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships and active participation in the assigned PLC.

Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues.

Be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education.

Commit to success for all students.

Participate in workshops and training sessions that support district programs.

Report regularly to parents and respond to parental concerns.

Maintain student records including daily grades and attendance reports.

Enforce school rules and monitor student behavior in classroom and non‑classroom settings.

Implement the requirements of I.D.E.A., Section 504, and A.D.A. for students with disabilities.

Contract
Standard continuing WVSD teacher contract.

Working Relationships
Work in partnership with both large and small groups of teachers and other professional staff. Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and teaching staff. Team up with grade‑level colleagues to plan lessons, analyze student data, and focus on continuous improvement. Cooperate with the building administrator in the observation and evaluation process. Provide lesson plans and activity supervision to instructional paraprofessionals. May deal with a wide range of student abilities and behaviors; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students.

Working Conditions
The daily work is performed in a classroom setting. The job incumbent is often required to stand or sit for prolonged periods, to be exposed to a computer display terminal, and to meet externally imposed and inflexible deadlines. May be required to work outdoors in inclement weather; lift, move, and position students and equipment; supervise bus loading/unloading; attend to students’ personal hygiene; deal with distraught, angry, or hostile individuals; avoid exposure to student bodily fluids and cleaning compounds; and work in non‑routine positions for extended periods.

Working Environment
Physical demands include occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assist in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing, performed under a generally hazard‑free and clean environment.
