
Software Defined Network Modernization Manager

Join GDIT to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) through the NEDIIS program. As the Software‑Defined Network Modernization Manager, you will lead teams modernizing SD‑WAN, enterprise networking, cloud connectivity, and TIC capabilities across the VA enterprise. This role supports VA OIT in delivering secure, resilient, and scalable network services that power the VA mission nationwide.
How You Will Make an Impact
Lead engineering teams delivering SD‑WAN, LAN/WAN, cloud networking, and enterprise infrastructure modernization.
Oversee network architecture, design reviews, configuration standards, and technical refresh activities.
Provide daily TIC support, including monitoring configuration, performance, and operational metrics, and ensuring engineering services resolve issues escalated through the VA NOC.
Direct technical staff resolving tickets from multiple inputs, including phone, email, and instant messaging.
Support IPS hardware management, including signature deployment, troubleshooting, and issue resolution in accordance with VA NOC SOPs.
Serve as Tier IV escalation for complex network, telecom, and software‑defined infrastructure issues.
Gather requirements, interface with stakeholders, and ensure solutions comply with VA standards, STIGs, TIC 3.0, and Zero Trust guidance.
Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct pilots, assess vendors, and recommend modernization strategies.
Mentor engineers, support process improvement, and maintain operational excellence.
Develop technical specifications, test plans, timelines, and modernization roadmaps.
Support budgeting, technology selection, risk management, and contractually required reporting.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or IT (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience leading engineering teams in the relevant task areas; OR 3+ years of experience plus one of the following certifications: CCENT, Network+, CCNA, CCNP, CCDP, or CCIE.
5+ years of telecom or IT operations experience supporting enterprise or federal environments.
Extensive experience with LAN/WAN, MPLS, SD‑WAN, routing protocols, VoIP/SIP, firewalls, VPNs, and cloud networking.
Hands‑on experience leading modernization, tech refresh, compliance enforcement, and multi‑vendor/SIAM environments.
Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk, DataDog, Wireshark, Cisco vManage, and Juniper Contrail.
Understanding of NIST 800‑53/RMF, TIC 3.0, Zero Trust, STIGs, FedRAMP, and ATO sustainment.
Ability to support 24×7×365 operations and Tier II–IV engineering escalation coverage.
Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
