The job of the Literacy Coach is to support student achievement through the implementation of quality instruction with state-approved standards and district-approved resources.

Essential Functions
Planning
Collaborate with school administrators to support induction teachers.
Serve as a member of the School Leadership Team communicating progress related to literacy.
Collaborate with teachers to deepen their understanding of content knowledge, pedagogy, and required curriculum standards through unit development and lesson planning.
Receive evaluator training for the purpose of supporting and coaching teachers in the evaluation process.
Demonstrate lesson planning using data and high-quality instructional materials to support teachers.
Instructional Delivery
Model effective teaching strategies in the classroom for teachers and students to build literacy skills.
School based literacy coaches working side-by-side with teachers in classrooms.
School based literacy coaches work directly with students individually and in small groups.
Lead professional learning related to the implementation of the Science of Reading.
Assessment Usage and Implementation
Collaborate with the grade level and content area teachers to analyze data and create goals in alignment with the School Improvement Plan.
Work with teachers to select, design, and use multiple types of assessments to improve student learning.
Assist with the MTSS process and support teachers as they determine and implement appropriate literacy interventions based on student data and needs.
Work closely with administrators to gather and analyze data in order to identify trends, target training and support needs, and develop goals to improve student learning.
Work closely with teachers in completing standards-based report cards (Elementary Only).
Work closely with administrators to create a structure for intervention time focused on meeting student literacy needs (Middle School Only).
Work with administrators to support coaching needs of individual teachers implementing coaching cycles as needed.
Observe teachers and provide descriptive feedback to guide their work through the evaluation process.
Coordinate peer observations.
Provide prompt feedback for improving literacy instruction.
Professionalism and Communication
Initial and ongoing mentor and coach training. Documentation of meetings with teachers, training of mentors, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
Stay current on research-based practices and instructional strategies by reading professional literature, reviewing new materials and exemplary programs, and participating in local, state, and national professional learning.
Perform other literacy related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
Valid Georgia Professional Certificate in assigned teaching field
Proven experience as an exceptional teacher in the elementary classroom
Proven literacy growth in K-5 data related teaching or coaching (Middle School)
Effective oral and written communication skills
Leadership Certificate preferred; not required
Willingness to work before, during, and after school hours
Physical Demands
Routine physical activities associated with typical office setting. Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling and repetitive fine motor activities. Vision, hearing and verbal communications are essential functions of this position.

Employee must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function of the position.
