POSITION TITLE
Lecturer Pool – Civil Engineering
POSITION DETAILS
The Department of Civil Engineering serves nearly 800 undergraduate majors and more than 60 graduate students, offering both Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Master of Science (M.S.) degrees in civil engineering. It was recently ranked 8th among non‑doctorate granting institutions by U.S. News & World Report. The department continues to thrive, supported by a diverse student body and faculty, as well as strong connections with industry partners and alumni.
We seek candidates for our part‑time lecturer pool in all areas of Civil Engineering including Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Surveying, Engineering Graphics/CAD, Engineering Statistics, Hydraulics, Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, to teach both lower and upper division required and elective courses.
Duties of a part‑time lecturer include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean.
Part‑time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally an academic year. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance.
The salary range is based on a “full‑time rate” (15 weighted teaching units [WTUs]). A semester's compensation consists of six payments. For example, a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary ($5,507) would receive: $5,507 × 3/15 × 6 = $6,608.40 for the semester.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Civil Engineering or in the relevant field; or Bachelor's degree plus the equivalent of at least five years teaching or relevant professional experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctoral degree in the relevant field
Prior teaching experience at the university level
Professional engineering experience and board registration

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with California State University, Sacramento. Failure to satisfy the background check may affect the application status or continued employment.
