Position Overview
The Division of Hematology/Oncology within the Department of Medicine is seeking a motivated Research Technician I to join the laboratory of Dr. Edward Gelmann. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful research exploring how pharmacologic kinase inhibitors influence tumor suppressor proteins, using both cultured cells and mouse tissues.

The Research Technician will play a key role in day‑to‑day laboratory operations, including the preparation and maintenance of reagents, inventory and ordering of supplies, and routine upkeep of equipment to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.

Responsibilities

Assist the PI and laboratory personnel during experiments with mouse tissues under established protocols.

Perform routine lab experiments with cultured cells to analyze the effects of pharmacologic kinase inhibitors on tumor suppressor proteins.

Prepare and maintain reagents for the lab as directed.

Maintain inventory and order supplies from vendors as needed.

Perform routine upkeep of equipment to ensure proper operation, calibration, and cleanliness.

Prepare for and respond to the annual Laboratory Safety Audit.

Perform additional laboratory–related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to use sterile technique.

Ability to conduct protein analysis by immunoblotting.

Experience with the dilution of reagents.

Ability to prepare laboratory reagents.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

A year of prior laboratory experience is preferred, particularly in cell culture or molecular biology techniques.

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or a comparable field.

Work Hours & Compensation
Full Time:

40 hours per week; 1.0 FTE. Non‑Exempt. Hourly rate: $16.50 – $18.75.
