Dean of Students – High School Summer School Program

Reports to:

Summer School Principal or Program Director

Position Overview
The Dean of Students for the Summer High School Program is responsible for fostering a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment that promotes student success, accountability, and well‑being. This role focuses on student discipline, attendance, culture‑building, and coordination with staff to ensure a positive and productive summer school experience.

Goal of the Role
To ensure that all students experience a safe, supportive, and structured environment that maximizes their opportunity for academic success during the summer term.

Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Culture

Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful school climate aligned with program expectations

Build strong relationships with students to support engagement, motivation, and personal growth

Serve as a visible and approachable presence throughout the school day

Develop and enforce student behavior policies and code of conduct

Address disciplinary issues promptly and fairly, using restorative practices when appropriate

Maintain accurate records of behavioral incidents and interventions

Attendance & Engagement

Monitor daily student attendance and follow up on absences or tardiness

Collaborate with families and staff to improve attendance and participation

Identify at‑risk students and implement strategies to re‑engage them

Work closely with teachers and support staff to address student needs

Provide guidance and support on classroom management strategies

Participate in staff meetings and contribute to program planning and evaluation

Family Communication

Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and expectations

Address concerns and facilitate solutions in a professional and timely manner

Program Operations

Assist with student intake, orientation, and scheduling as needed

Supervise transitions, common areas, and school events

Ensure compliance with school policies, safety procedures, and relevant regulations

Qualifications

Experience working with high school students in an educational or youth development setting

Strong leadership, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills

Ability to work in a fast‑paced, short‑term program environment

Knowledge of restorative practices and student‑centered discipline approaches is an asset

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Sound judgment and problem‑solving ability

Ability to build trust with students, staff, and families

Working Conditions

May involve standing, walking, and active supervision throughout the day

Working Schedule

6/22/2026 – 7/31/26

Monday through Friday (specific Fridays off will be communicated)
