Responsibilities
Manage a caseload, including writing case notes and maintaining supporting documentation.
Determine eligibility for vocational services.
Develop employment goals and Individualized Plans for Employment.
Purchase goods and services as needed to reach employment goals.
Coordinate resources of family, community, and specialists.
Determine case closure.
Qualifications
NY HELPS:
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program. It is a non‑competitive appointment that may be converted to competitive status within one year of permanent appointment.
Minimum Qualifications (Non‑Competitive)
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Trainee 1 : Bachelor’s degree or higher AND (a) enrollment in a master's program in rehabilitation counseling, or (b) master’s degree or higher in a related field.
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Trainee 2 : Bachelor’s degree or higher AND (a) completion of 50% of coursework toward a master’s in rehabilitation counseling, or (b) master’s degree or higher in a related field AND one year as a Trainee 1, or (c) master’s degree or higher in a related field AND one year professional experience in a related field.
Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (Full Performance) : (i) Current Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) credential as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC); (ii) master’s degree or higher in rehabilitation counseling; (iii) master’s degree or higher in a related field AND completion of the traineeship; or (iv) master’s degree or higher in a related field AND two years professional experience in a related field.
Competitive Minimum Qualifications
One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor or related specialized title.
Eligibility for 55b/c designation; must possess a current 55b/c eligibility letter and meet the qualifications listed above.
Related degree and experience fields are listed in the original posting. Ongoing CRCC certification is required for full‑performance appointments.
