Role Overview
As a Laboratory Assistant at Mayo Clinic, you will be part of a diverse, agile team responsible for biological specimen receipt, identification verification, processing and storage. You will perform clerical and laboratory duties including maintaining supply inventory, filing, stocking, receiving shipments, and cleaning. The position is located at the Superior Drive Support Center with immediate parking available.

Responsibilities
While experience is preferred, Mayo Clinic provides on‑the‑job training for this role. In addition to gaining clinical laboratory experience, you will have many opportunities for career advancement within Specimen Operations.
Biological specimen receipt, identification verification, processing and storage.
Perform clerical, processing, and other laboratory duties including inventory maintenance, filing, stocking, receiving shipments, and cleaning.
Maintain supply inventory and support laboratory operations.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Must obtain Department of Transportation (DOT) certification for the delivery of specimens to off‑site locations after hire.

Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology/Mayo Collaborative Services (DLMP/MCS) employees that have been in their current lab/position for less than 2 years must attach an early release approval from their supervisor.
Internal applicants must attach their 3 most recent performance appraisals.
Knowledge of laboratory functions and medical terminology preferred.
Science background preferred.
1‑2 years medical experience preferred.
Ability to stay organized, prioritize, and shift gears in a busy environment.
Conscientious of details and strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents.
Ability to work independently and as a contributing team member.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
Experienced with computers, keyboarding, and telephone operations.
Flexibility.
International/Foreign Trained Applicants
MUST have a detailed equivalency evaluation. The applicant is responsible for the cost associated with obtaining the equivalency evaluation.
MUST show US equivalent degree.
Evaluation must be completed from a NACES or AICE accredited organization.
License/Certificates
This position requires a valid Minnesota driver's license with an excellent driving record.
Compensation
$20.00 - $24.75 per hour; 80 hours per pay period.
Schedule
Full time, Tuesday–Saturday, 6:30 am – 3:00 pm; weekend shift (every Saturday).
