Available Shifts:
1st Shift M - Th (5:00 am - 3:20 pm)
2nd Shift M - Th (3:00 pm- 1:20 am)
3rd Shift M - Th (7pm - 5:20am)
Weekend Shift Sunday, Friday, Saturday (5pm - 5:20am; work 36 hours get paid for 40 hours)
Starting Pay:
$23 - $30/hr (additional $1.25 shift differential and $1.75 shift premium for off shifts)
The Position:
The Furnace Tender operates and monitors industrial furnaces to ensure materials are heated, melted, and processed according to specifications. This role involves maintaining proper temperatures, supporting production efficiency, ensuring safety standards, and producing quality metal products. The position also includes alloying metals, re-melting scrap, and transferring molten materials for casting while maintaining equipment and inspecting output for quality.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Operate and control furnace equipment for heating, melting, and alloying materials
Monitor temperature gauges, controls, and recording instruments; adjust fuel, airflow, or electrical settings as needed
Load raw materials, re-melt scrap, and transfer or pour molten metal into molds, ladles, trucks, or casting machines
Regulate furnace and metal temperatures; stir furnaces and skim off dross or impurities
Inspect furnace conditions; perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs
Deliver ingots and molten metal; monitor, identify, and label ingot inventory
Inspect products for quality, defects, and deviations from specifications
Identify and report equipment malfunctions or unusual operating conditions and take appropriate action
Maintain accurate production logs and operational records
Follow all safety procedures and wear required protective equipment
Operate a forklift as needed
Work at an assigned workstation and collaborate with team members to meet production targets
Adjust schedule and duties as needed to support company operations
Perform other duties as assigned
Education & Experience Requirements:
Minimum: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate; basic mathematical and computer skills;
Preferred: 6 months forklift experience in a fastpaced manufacturing environment
Functional Requirements
Consistently able to:
Manually lift and move product and materials up to 55 lbs. through regular physical exertion, including but not limited to reaching forward, reaching overhead, lifting, carrying, crouching, and bending
Power grip and wrist turn, including the use of hand tools and/or steering fork truck
Walk, sit, or stand for up to 12 hours with intermittent breaks
Push/pull up to 100 lbs.
See, inspect, handle and evaluate product quality
Read and understand written English language work instructions
Work in non-climate controlled environments, including hot and humid conditions
Climb ladders and stairs of varying heights
Wear task-based Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
