The Position
The Master Scheduler is accountable for creating, maintaining, and executing the Master Production Schedule (MPS) to align production output with customer demand, capacity constraints, and supply availability. This role leads the supply side of the S&OP process, serves as the primary operations representative in customer quoting, and drives resolutions of supply exceptions that impact revenue, inventory, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Master Production Scheduling & Capacity Management
Develop, publish, and maintain the Master Production Schedule to support customer demand, forecast requirements, and strategic business goals
Monitor and adjust production schedules to address demand changes, capacity constraints, and supply disruptions.
Perform capacity planning and finite scheduling analysis to identify bottlenecks and constraints.
Recommend schedule adjustments, overtime, or resource shifts to meet service targets.
S&OP & Cross-Functional Leadership
Partner with Sales, Operations, and Supply Chain to align demand plans with executable production schedules.
Act as the operations representative in large customer order quoting, providing input on lead times and supply risks.
Communicate schedule priorities, changes, and risks proactively.
Machine Shop Planning & Inventory Strategy
Act as planner for the machine shop, building and maintaining production schedules.
Own stocking strategies and make-versus-buy decisions.
Improve schedule efficiency through better sequencing and reduced changeovers.
Lead exception messages such as pull-ins, pushouts, and cancellations within the planning and buying teams.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
Track and report key KPIs such as:
Capacity utilization
Support ERP/MRP system accuracy, data integrity, and planning parameter optimization.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to production flow and planning processes.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, or technical field
3+ years of experience in production planning or master scheduling within a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of ERP systems and capacity planning.
Experience influencing multiple stakeholders and leading cross functional teams.
Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and process improvement methodologies.
Preferred
APICS CPIM or CSCP Certification
Experience supporting or leading S&OP processes.
Prior experience supervising or leading others.
Experience with analytics or visualization tools such as PowerBI and Tableau.
