Senior Payroll Accountant
Dallas, TX - hybrid, 2-3 days onsite
One of Vaco's real estate investment clients is looking to onboard a Senior Accountant due to continued growth of the organization. The company has a diverse portfolio of assets worth over $5B and has grown exponentially over the last 5-10 years.
The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for the full-cycle, end-to-end processing for biweekly, multistate payroll. This is a “one person” team and requires someone to be detail-oriented, systems-savvy (Workday preferred), and capable of operating independently.

Key Responsibilities
Process end-to-end, multi-state payroll for a mid-to-large employee population with high accuracy and timeliness
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
Manage payroll audits, garnishments, tax filings, and year-end activities (W-2s, etc.)
Stay current on changing payroll laws and proactively implement updates
Own payroll processing within Workday Payroll, including troubleshooting and optimization
Partner with HR and Finance to ensure accurate employee data, earnings, and deductions
Generate and analyze payroll reports, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues quickly
Leverage Time & Attendance systems to validate hours, accruals, and exceptions
Perform payroll-related reconciliations (general ledger, benefits, taxes)
Ensure strong internal controls and documentation around payroll processes
Support audits by providing accurate data and supporting schedules
Act as a key resource for payroll-related inquiries from employees and leadership
Collaborate with HR, Accounting, and external vendors to resolve complex issues
Identify process improvements and drive efficiencies within payroll operations
Qualifications
5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-state payroll processing
Strong hands-on experience with Workday Payroll (required or highly preferred)
Experience with Time & Attendance systems (Workday preferred)
Deep understanding of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements
Proven ability to work independently and “hit the ground running”
Strong Excel skills (reconciliations, data analysis, reporting)
