Wage/Hour Status:
Non-exempt
Primary Purpose
Help the special‑education teacher provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a special education setting. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self‑help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under general supervision of the principal and immediate direction of a certified teacher.
Responsibilities
Assist students with physical disabilities, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, and positioning.
Provide personal care such as feeding, bathroom assistance, diapering, and hygiene.
Support student behavior management and intervene in crisis situations, restraining disruptive or dangerous behavior as needed.
Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
Help maintain organization of the classroom, prepare instructional materials, assist with inventory, and care for equipment.
Assist in record keeping and preparation of required reports.
Assist substitute teachers and keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
Supervise students during the school day, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
Maintain confidentiality and participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and special events.
Qualifications
High‑school diploma or GED.
Valid Texas educational aide certificate (to be obtained after hire).
48 college hours or passing the CISD Test.
Experience working with children, preferably with disabilities.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of general office equipment.
