Job Title:
Teacher – Dual Language (Spanish) Kindergarten
Summary:
The job of "Teacher" is to develop students' academic and interpersonal skills by implementing District approved curriculum and presenting courses of study; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific academic needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents/guardians and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Essential Job Functions
Plans for instruction for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
Examples of planning include, but are not limited to:
Selects or writes learning goals based on district outcomes and directives and the students’ needs.
Determines current achievement level relative to learning goals.
Establishes objectives for units, formulates daily lessons, and evaluates learning goals attainment.
Adapts unit and lesson plans for exceptional learners and for students from varying cultural, social, and linguistic backgrounds.
Selects and organizes instructional materials and equipment; designs instructional activities; estimates time for instruction, practice and evaluation.
Establishes a classroom climate conducive to learning for a safe and optimal environment.
Examples of establishing conducive climate include:
Communicates classroom rules, procedures and behavior expectations appropriate to student development and rights/responsibilities.
Applies principles of equity and access for disabled students.
Considers the influence of students’ home and community environments on motivation and behavior.
Encourages appropriate behavior and provides meaningful reinforcement.
Monitors conduct and takes appropriate action per school and district policies.
Interacts with students, colleagues and parents professionally to resolve conflicts.
Uses classroom time effectively and manages transitions; coordinates volunteers and staff to meet objectives.
Implements Plans for Instruction to improve student success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills.
Examples of instruction include:
Organizes students for planned learning activities and communicates learning outcomes.
Provides instruction using varied techniques to achieve objectives.
Monitors and adjusts pace/content to meet objectives; promotes critical thinking and problem solving.
Evaluates Student Achievement
for feedback to students, parents/guardians and administration regarding progress and goals.
Examples of evaluation include:
Uses tests, observations, scoring guides, interviews and portfolios to assess objectives.
Designs assessments to determine mastery before designing lesson activities.
Records progress and communicates achievement; summarizes data relative to objectives.
Uses achievement data to refine objectives and plan further instruction.
Directs Instructional Assistants
to support an effective program and meet student needs.
Examples of directing instructional assistants include:
Delegates tasks, trains assistants, supervises and assesses performance.
Maintains accountability for safety and effectiveness of delegated tasks.
Advises families on student progress and collaborates with staff and community partners to implement curriculum and improve outcomes.
Demonstrates methods for assignments and monitors student activities to ensure safety and learning.
Prepares materials and reports; documents progress.
Reports incidents to comply with rules and laws.
Other Job Functions:
Assists other personnel as needed for curriculum implementation and support.
Participates in meetings to share information and meet credential requirements.
Qualifications
Experience Required:
Prior success in related roles (may include successful supervised student teaching).
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required: Motivate students, communicate with diverse backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance.
Knowledge:
Age-appropriate teaching methods, state/district standards, grading practices, instructional subjects.
Abilities:
Perform tasks, maintain records, build relationships with students, families and staff; meet schedules and deadlines; physical abilities as needed for classroom environment.
Education Required:
University degree in education and/or Oregon teaching license requirements.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
Oregon teaching license appropriate to assignment; fingerprint clearance; first aid/CPR where required.
Bilingual Spanish Required
Knowledge of Common Core State Standards, PBIS, RTI and formative assessments.
ESOL or Reading endorsement preferred
