
Instrumentation & Electrical Technician

Purpose
Troubleshoot, analyze and solve instrumentation/electrical equipment and performance. Maintains instrumentation/electrical performance for all plant equipment - including performing repairs, installations, operational inspections, and participating in developing improvements.
Duties & Responsibilities
Operate all basic electrical and electronics test equipment.
Perform repair-oriented activities on a daily basis, based upon immediate needs and maintenance scheduling.
Perform all calibration on control valves, transmitters, analyzers and sensors.
Understand, analyze and repair pneumatics instruments.
Must understand medium and low power distribution, and PLC systems such as read functional block and ladder logic.
Working knowledge of HMI’s (Human Machine Interfaces), medium and low voltage transformers and motor starters. Understand basic NEC and 70E codes. Read and understand relay logic.
Knowledge of function and setup process of variable frequency driver.
Knowledge of ControlLogix PLC, how it works and understand system setup.
Perform instrumentation and electrical repairs as needed.
Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair all instrumentation/electrical auxiliary equipment in the calciner and steam plants.
Calibrate process instrumentation such as pressure, temperature and level transmitters, analyzers and sensors to meet the requirements for reliable operation, high quality production, precise process control and ISO compliance.
Operate mobile equipment as required to perform instrumentation work.
Performs activities based on priority, criticality, machine and instrumentation/electrical availability, and available funding.
Participates in problem solving activities related to improving the production process and work environment.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, electrical and instrumentation blueprints, schematics, logic diagrams, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Present information to small groups.
Work requires resolving mutual problems and collaborating with others.
Job Requirements
Two years related training from college or vocational school; plus five years related experience is required. Computer literacy is essential.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, lengths, circumference, and volume. Apply or understand concepts of basic Algebra, Boolean system and Geometry.
Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems using available tools, resources, etc. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and/or fingers to handle or feel, reach above shoulder height, stoop, kneel, crouch or squat, twist, crawl, drive (forklifts, loaders, or other vehicles), and climb ladders. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee is also required several times each week to climb and/or balance flights of stairs of more than 25 steps. The employee is required to lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds periodically and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing protection is often required. May be required to wear respiratory protection. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to working near moving mechanical parts, working in high and/or precarious places, with fumes or airborne particles, with toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and in outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment does not typically require hearing protection.
