Academic Advisor (HEa) - Colin Powell School (3 Positions)

Position Details
The Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at The City College of New York is hiring three Academic Advisers to support and advise undergraduate students. Advisers will work in the Office of Academic Advising, reporting to the Director, and are responsible for one‑on‑one advising, program development to support student success, and monitoring and reporting on academic progress as required by the College and CUNY.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive academic counseling to a diverse student population.

Collaborate with the Dean, Associate Dean, Director of Academic Advising, and other offices to support planning, scheduling, and coordination of academic advising and registration activities.

Offer advisement to full‑time and part‑time students and assist them in declaring majors and selecting appropriate courses.

Ensure students receive consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services in coordination with academic departments.

Provide guidance on financial aid options and strategies for funding education.

Use multiple technologies to advise and communicate with students, including CUNYFirst, DegreeWorks, EAB Navigate, Zoom, and other systems.

Proactively engage students through appointment campaigns and regular communication.

Monitor student performance and take appropriate action, resolving curricular issues.

Develop academic plans and perform graduation audits.

Collaborate with other academic and administrative offices to maintain a comprehensive advisement program.

Represent the Colin Powell School at admissions events and coordinate advising social media pages.

Assist with degree audits for degree candidates within the division.

Support adherence to college policies, write reports, and maintain databases.

Participate in professional development to stay informed about best practices in student advising and transfer student success.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and four years of related experience.

Experience providing academic advising in a higher education setting.

Familiarity with student information systems such as CUNYFirst / PeopleSoft, DegreeWorks, and EAB Navigate.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.

Benefits
Salary Range: $76,937 - $86,741. Salary commensurate with education and experience. CUNY provides a comprehensive benefits package including health plans, retirement/pension benefits and savings plans, tuition waivers for CUNY graduate study, paid time off, and access to academic and athletic programs.
