Position Overview
The Office of Campus Police Services provides a safe and secure environment for the campus community. The department consists of an Operations Section that includes sworn police officers, security officers, and public‑safety telecommunicators, and an Administrative Section that supports record‑keeping, discovery, and report processing.

Patrols assigned areas of offices, buildings, and grounds including parking areas, monitors activity and provides escort services, checks vehicles, and takes action to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, disorder, or other damage to campus property. The officer opens and closes gates, doors, windows, and raises flags as needed, directs campus traffic, and assists the police with maintaining order during emergencies. Suspicious persons and situations are evaluated and reported promptly.

Internal salary range (steps 1‑11): $44,323.02 – $64,052.12
External salary range (steps 1‑4): $44,323.02 – $50,436.97

Responsibilities

Protect buildings, contents, and occupants from hazards.

Provide escorts for students, faculty, and staff as requested.

Direct traffic on campus and regulate pedestrian and vehicular flow at intersections.

Give assistance during accidents or illnesses, summoning police and/or fire department as needed.

Assist the police in maintaining order on campus.

Investigate suspicious persons and conditions, report significant actions and occurrences.

Qualifications

High‑school graduate, vocational high‑school graduate, or approved high‑school equivalent.

Valid New Jersey driver’s license in good standing.

Physical ability to pass a pre‑employment physical.

Capacity to sit or stand for extended periods and lift moderately heavy objects.

Availability to assist with building evacuations, and to work off hours, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

May be required to assist with building evacuations during drills.

Residency Requirement
Applicants must obtain New Jersey residency within one year of employment in accordance with the New Jersey First Act P.L. 2011 c.70.
