Radiology/Lab Technician - PRN in Yanceyville, NC
Job Purpose
The PRN Radiology/Laboratory Technician performs X-rays and a variety of technical tasks involving the operation of X-ray equipment, as well as administrative tasks related to radiology workflow. The technician will be cross‑trained to perform all functions associated with the daily operations of CHC’s in‑house laboratory.
Responsibilities
Radiology
Performs simple, plain film X-rays for patients, as ordered by CHC providers or outside orders in accordance with CHC protocols.
Communicates X‑ray procedure, assists patients as needed, and uses protective devices as required for each age group.
Ensures ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) radiation dose guidelines are maintained for the patient and technician per NC and federal regulations.
Ensures the quality of the X‑ray is satisfactory.
Enters each patient’s information in the computer before imaging and then enters all information needed to send X‑rays to an off‑site radiologist for over‑reads.
Administrative Duties
Maintains records of all X‑rays performed at CHC and ensures receipt of written report from off‑site radiologist.
Scans radiology reports into the patient’s record in EHR.
In conjunction with the Radiation Safety Officer, ensures that radiology is performed in compliance with North Carolina and federal regulations.
Laboratory
Collects lab specimens.
Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process in the delivery of services to patients of the age groups served.
Provides appropriate care according to the patient’s age while performing phlebotomy duties.
Accurately prepares samples for testing.
Performs general lab testing procedures such as limited microscopy, rapid strep, flu, pregnancy testing, urine drug screen, HgbA1c, hemoglobin, hemoccult, glucose, urine dip, and other testing as defined in the Center’s laboratory procedures and per CLIA requirements.
Performs proficiency testing as scheduled by the American Proficiency Institute.
Documents labs performed in EMR, according to CHC protocols.
Alerts providers of abnormal lab results.
Scans lab results into EMR as needed.
Qualifications
Active Radiologic Technologist certification (or equivalent credential) required to perform radiology services.
Prior clinical experience performing radiology procedures and/or general lab testing in a clinical setting.
Availability to work on a PRN (as‑needed) basis to support clinic operations.
Legally authorized to work in the United States.
