Position Summary
Coach in various secondary interscholastic athletic programs.

Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to a high school diploma and minimum 64 college semester hours from an accredited college or university.

Meet guidelines of Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

Reports To
Head Coach

Performance Responsibilities

Has responsibility for the sport and team that he coaches, establishing training procedures and methods for senior high and middle school teams.

Never discourages a student from participation in other sports.

Designs the sport in the interest of a well‑rounded total school athletic program.

Fosters a cooperative attitude among all coaches.

Instructs athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, physical training, moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self‑discipline and self‑confidence.

Has thorough knowledge of all athletic policies, rules and regulations of the National and Kentucky High School Athletic Associations and is responsible for implementing them by the staff.

Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff including middle school staff.

Arranges conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness of overall program.

Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation of staff.

Assists the athletic director in scheduling, providing transportation, arranging lodging and meals for required events.

Assists the athletic director in preparing for scheduled events or practices and adhering to facility times.

Provides the athletic director with all documentation to fulfill local, state, and national requirements with regards to physical examinations, insurance forms, records, eligibility forms, etc.

Arranges for issuing, storing, and reconditioning of equipment.

Helps provide training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete considered a participant.

Attends as many practice sessions and games involving other teams below varsity level, showing interest in feeder program.

Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.

Directs student managers and statisticians.

Helps athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.

Participates with the athletic director in budgeting.

Monitors equipment rooms and coach’s office, authorizes entry and requisition of equipment.

Permits athletes to be in authorized areas of the building only at appropriate times.

Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of specific equipment.

Secures all doors, lights, and windows and locks before leaving building when custodians are not on duty.

Instills in each player respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.

Promotes the sport within the school by recruiting athletes not in another sports program and promoting sports outside the school through media, little league programs, etc.

Works with the athletic director on special promotional activities.

Maintains a good public relation with media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.

Keeps the athletic director informed of serious injuries to athletes.

Maintains team records, individual sports records, letterman and award winners, providing information to athletic director and media.

Keeps abreast of new developments in the sport by attending clinics and state playoffs.

Works with principal, athletic director, and cheerleaders on sport’s assemblies and pep rallies.

Arrives early and stays late to prepare and assist players or participate in staff discussions.

Performs other duties as directed by principal, athletic director and/or superintendent.

Terms of Employment
Employment will be on an as‑needed basis as determined by the superintendent with salary determined by the adopted co‑curricular salary schedule of the Paducah Public Schools Board of Education.

Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
