Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Coordinator. The successful candidate is responsible for providing a moderate to advanced range of coordination of research studies conducted at the Medical Center, assisting with recruitment, enrollment, grant submissions, research data collection and study coordination activities. The role performs intra-operative monitoring and serves as a liaison with internal and external funding agencies. It ensures the accurate execution of research protocols in accordance with Good Clinical Practice, HIPAA, and obligations to patients, principal investigators, research teams, and sponsors. The coordinator interfaces directly with patients and principal investigators in support of clinical trials as applicable, and establishes liaisons with relevant parties at the Medical Center, including research nurses, pharmacists, program managers, medical technicians, clinical information systems, and regulatory services. The coordinator may also assist in the initiation and management of research studies and works under general direction.
Job Responsibilities
Prepare and submit grant applications and related materials, coordinate required paperwork, and follow up on all issues and progress to report to sponsors.
Oversee submission of required documents to the NYU Institutional Review Board, NYU Office of Clinical Trials, and other parties for human subjects research approval; audit and submit monthly enrollment statistics and other information to the Office of Clinical Trials.
Maintain up‑to‑date regulatory documents, assist with informed consent, monitor patient compliance, and report safety issues to the principal investigator and research nurse.
Collect, audit, and manage patient data for research projects, including abstraction from charts, publication data, and external physician offices. Prepare forms, reports, and analyses for studies.
Develop preliminary budgets, review sponsor‑proposed budgets, prepare funding reports, and identify potential new sponsors. Monitor budgets throughout trials.
Combine and evaluate information to make decisions and solve problems, referring unsolved issues to supervisors.
Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as required.
Screen potential patients for study eligibility, evaluate inclusion/exclusion criteria, obtain informed consent, and confirm willingness to participate.
Perform clinical procedures such as EKG, phlebotomy, centrifuge operation, and specimen handling; complete required training and certifications.
Pursue ongoing continuing education in research development and maintain at least 10 CEUs annually.
Compile and consolidate study data, conduct preliminary analyses, and provide reports to sponsors and regulatory agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, health care administration, or related field.
Minimum two years of progressively responsible project coordination experience, preferably in research.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and internet applications.
Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to interface with all management levels and communicate with internal and external customers.
Teamwork skills and ability to work independently.
Commitment to continuous learning and ability to operate research‑related equipment.
Strong time‑management, multitasking, and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to make independent decisions and work well under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) certification.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Experience in an academic medical center.
