Assistant Vice President, Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy
Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Skokie, IL, United States
Assistant Vice President, Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy
Genesis has built a full-spectrum musculoskeletal platform – surgical, physical therapy, imaging, and more – serving 16 clinics across Chicagoland and focusing on accessible care for Medicaid patients. This role drives the integration of rehabilitation as a core component of the platform.
Role
You will own strategy, operations, finance, talent, clinical quality, and growth for a multi-site therapy operation expanding rapidly. You will report to the COO, manage Clinic Managers and therapy staff, and maintain 10–25% direct clinical productivity.
What You'll Drive
Operations
Manage day‑to‑day operations, staffing, scheduling, throughput, and workflow standardization across PT/OT clinics.
Integrate therapy with orthopedic clinics to reduce referral leakage and keep patients within the Genesis care pathway.
Build coverage models that include in‑person, hybrid, and tele‑rehabilitation when evidence and patient population support it.
Growth & Access
Expand PT/OT footprint in Chicago and surrounding markets, selecting new locations based on referral patterns and payer mix.
Build systems to optimize speed‑to‑first‑visit and patient retention.
Extend hours, add sites, and eliminate friction points that delay patient appointments.
Clinical Integration
Partner with surgeons, PM&R physicians, and APPs to create protocol‑driven rehabilitation pathways by diagnosis and procedure.
Embed PT/OT early in the patient journey—pre‑habilitation, conservative management, post‑operative care.
Align utilization with evidence‑based guidelines and value‑based care objectives.
Financial Performance
Own P&L for PT/OT service lines: revenue, expenses, contribution margin.
Optimize therapist productivity and reimbursement performance.
Drive prior‑authorization discipline: timely submissions, minimal denials, and tight alignment between approved visits and care plans.
Implement conservative management strategies to reduce total cost of care.
Data & Analytics
Build and refine operational dashboards for real‑time visibility.
Define and own KPIs: visits per case, units per visit, therapist productivity, days to first visit, cancellation rates, referral conversion, authorization turnaround, functional outcomes, patient satisfaction.
Create a culture where Clinic Managers own their numbers.
Talent
Recruit, develop, and retain high‑performing PT and OT clinicians and leaders.
Build academic partnerships with PT/OT programs.
Coach Clinic Managers on operational, financial, and clinical success.
Develop scalable staffing models that grow with the platform.
Strategic Execution
Run 90‑day OKRs aligned to organizational priorities.
Maintain disciplined execution against growth, operational, and financial targets.
