Assistant Vice President, Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy

Genesisortho, Chicago, IL, United States

Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine
Job Description: Assistant Vice President, Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy
Position Summary
Genesis has built something genuinely rare: a full-spectrum MSK platform — surgery, therapy, imaging, and everything in between —operatingacross 16 clinics in Chicagoland, serving Medicaid patients at scale, and proving every day that accessible care and excellent care are the same thing.

The surgical side is humming. The clinical model is proven. Nowwe'reready to build rehabilitation into the platform it was always supposed to be — tightly integrated, protocol-driven, financially sustainable, and deeply accessible to the patients who need it most.

That'sthe AVP of PT & OT job. Andit'sone of the most consequential operational leadership roles at Genesis right now.

The Role

You'llown everything across PT and OT — strategy, operations, finance, talent, clinical quality, and growth — across a multi-site therapy operationthat'sexpanding fast. You'llreport directly to the COO, manage Clinic Managers and therapy office staff, and sit at the intersection of clinical excellence and operational performance.

Thisisn'ta pure desk job.You'llmaintain10–25% direct clinical productivity— staying close to the floor, modeling expectations, and keeping your instincts sharp. The best operational leaders in healthcare never fully leave the clinic, and wedon'twant you to.

What You'll Drive

Operations

Own day-to-day operations across all PT/OT clinics: staffing, scheduling, patient throughput, and workflow standardization thatactually scales

Integrate therapy seamlessly with orthopedic clinics — reducing referral leakage and keeping patients inside the Genesis care pathway

Build coverage models thatwork:in-person, hybrid, and tele-rehabilitation where the evidence and the patient population support it

Growth & Access

Expand the PT/OT footprint across Chicago and surrounding markets —identifyingnew locations based on referral patterns and payer mix

Build systems that ruthlesslyoptimizespeed-to-first-visitand patient retention

Extend hours, add sites, and remove every friction point that stands between a patient and their first appointment

Clinical Integration

Partner with Genesis surgeons, PM&R physicians, and APPs to buildprotocol-driven rehabilitation pathwaysby diagnosis and procedure

Embed PT/OT early — prehabilitation, conservative management, post-operative care — so therapy is part of the patient journey from the start, not an afterthought

Alignutilizationwith evidence-based guidelines and value-based care objectives

Financial Performance

Own the P&L for PT/OT service lines: revenue, expenses, contribution margin

Optimizetherapist productivity and reimbursement performance

Buildprior authorization discipline—timelysubmissions, minimal denials, tight alignment between approved visits and care plans

Drive conservative management strategies that reduce total cost of care — for the patient and the system

Data & Analytics

Build and continuously refineoperational dashboardsthat give leadership real-time visibility intowhat'sworking and whatisn't

Define and own KPIs across the therapy organization: visits per case, units per visit, therapist productivity, days to first visit, cancellation rates, referral conversion, authorization turnaround, functional outcomes, patient satisfaction

Create a culture of data transparency where every Clinic Manager knows their numbers and owns their performance

Talent

Recruit, develop, andretainhigh-performing PT and OT clinicians and leaders across all markets

Build andmaintainacademic partnershipswith PT/OT programs to keep the hiring pipeline full

Coach Clinic Managers to operational, financial, and clinical success

Develop scalable staffing models — effectiveutilizationof PTAs, COTAs, and support staff — that grow with the platform

Strategic Execution

Run90-day OKRsfor yourself and your direct reports, aligned to the broader organizational priorities

Drive disciplined execution against growth, operational, and financial targets — quarter after quarter

Who We're Looking For

You'rea licensed PT or OT in Illinois (or getting there) with 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in rehabilitation services and real multi-site operational chops. You understand outpatienttherapyeconomics, billing, and reimbursement — not at a surface level, but well enough to own a P&L and defend it.

You'rean operator that came up through the clinic. You know what good therapy looks like from the inside. You can read a dashboard and read a patient. Both skills arerequiredhere.

You'rea builder.Genesis PT/OT hasa strong foundationand significant room to grow. You see that gap and feel the urgency to close it — more locations, better integration, tighter protocols, stronger teams.

You run toward data.Youdon'tmanage by instinct alone. You build dashboards, track KPIs, and hold teams accountable to metrics thatactually connectto patient outcomes and financial performance.

You develop people. The Clinic Managers who report to you will be better operators because of this role. That outcome matters to you, not just the numbers on the dashboard.

You'remission-aligned.A significant portionof our patient population is on Medicaid or underinsured. Building a therapy platform that serves them — at the same standard as everyone else — is the job. Thathas to meansomething to you.

Orthopedic or MSK experience is a plus. Experience in value-based care models — bundles, capitation, episodic payments — is even better. Familiarity with Illinois Medicaid and commercial payer dynamics is a genuine advantage.
