
Forest Soil Fieldwork Temporary Technician

Position Summary
The Markewitz Forest Soils and Water laboratory is looking for two undergraduate students to assist with fieldwork in support of an upcoming scientific research effort. The work will involve travel to South and Central Georgia for the collection of plant material and soils over the course of one week of fieldwork.
Duties/Responsibilities
Collection of data/samples in the field (95% of time)
Organization/processing of samples upon return to the laboratory (5% of time)
Education and Experience
Coursework in forestry, soil science, agronomy, ecology, or related fields is preferred.
Experience collecting data or samples for research or labs in forest environments is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
Ability to work outdoors in cold and potentially inclement weather.
Willingness to travel overnight for three-to-four days as part of a team conducting fieldwork.
Physical ability to bend and stand repeatedly, conduct moderate physical labor, and carry 30 lbs for half mile.
Physical Demands
Exposure to cold and rain; uneven terrain; moving through forested environments.
