Hours:

8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Occasional evening and weekend hours on an as‑needed basis.

The Color Materials Technology group in Peekskill focuses on inorganic materials chemistry R&D for the generation of novel decorative and functional materials. The Process Development Chemist is responsible for hands‑on lab work, developing new ideas, concepts, processes, and products that generate significant returns for the company. The primary responsibility is to plan and execute high‑value research projects on time and to budget.

Key Responsibilities

Strong commitment to environmental, health, and safety excellence

Drive continuous improvement through innovation and realize significant cost savings

Design, develop, and scale up new effect pigment products

Independently perform laboratory experiments, pilot, and plant trials

Provide plant support to effect pigments production plants

Collaboratively conduct root‑cause analysis studies and define corrective actions

Characterize and evaluate R&D concept samples via new and established laboratory test methods

Deliver assigned projects on time and on budget

Perform independent analysis and interpretation of experimental results and plan subsequent experimental work accordingly

Thoroughly document laboratory experiments and prepare technical reports

Collaborate with other teams—applications science, technical service, analytical, manufacturing, marketing, and product management—to achieve technical targets

Effectively communicate with internal and external customers, demonstrating strong written and presentation skills

Qualifications / Requirements

Bachelor's or master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or material science

Hands‑on experience synthesizing advanced functional materials (e.g., nanoparticles, structured composites) and thorough experimental knowledge of fine particles, surface, and inorganic materials chemistry

3–5 years’ experience in a plant and laboratory environment

Prior experience in new product development, process development, scale‑up, or chemical engineering preferred

Knowledge of CAPA, 8D, lean manufacturing, six sigma, DMAIC, and FMEA preferred

Experience in coatings and/or color cosmetics industries preferred

Strong time‑management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines

Excellent communication skills and proficiency in critical thinking and data analysis

Salary Range
$81,000 – $101,000
