Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) , whose primary role is to provide routine daily nursing care and services to residents, ensuring that care is administered according to each resident's care plan. Here’s a summary of the key components:

Primary Purpose

Provide routine daily nursing care to residents, following the resident’s care plan and as directed by supervisors.

Responsibilities
1. Administrative Functions

Record entries on flow sheets, notes, and charts.

Report any changes in the resident’s condition to the Charge Nurse or Nurse Supervisor.

2. Personal Nursing Care Functions

Measure and document residents’ vitals (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, etc.).

Assist residents with daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, eating, and grooming.

Help residents with mobility, including walking, using assistive devices, and transferring in and out of beds or wheelchairs.

Provide basic nursing care like applying compresses, assisting with dental hygiene, and nail care for non-diabetics.

Support residents with bowel and bladder functions, and document food and fluid intake.

3. Care Plan and Monitoring

Contribute to the development and implementation of care plans.

Monitor residents’ responses to care plan interventions.

Provide non-pharmacological pain management and restorative procedures as needed.

Observe residents for skin breakdown, pressure areas, and stress behaviors, and report as required.

4. Resident Support and Interaction

Prepare residents for meals, social programs, and medical appointments.

Assist in resident transport to and from activities.

Greet and orient new residents to the facility and ensure their comfort.

5. Safety and Infection Control

Follow established infection prevention and control procedures.

Handle occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals as instructed.

Ensure the residents' environment remains safe and clean.

5. Staff Development

Attend in-service training sessions on topics like resident rights, dementia care, abuse prevention, and CNA competencies.

Participate in facility meetings and continuing education programs.

Working Conditions

The role requires moving and standing for prolonged periods and performing repetitive motions.

Exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious materials is possible, and precautions must be taken to ensure safety.

Physical tasks such as lifting, turning, and repositioning residents are part of the job.

Qualifications

Must hold a valid CNA certification and complete ongoing education as required by the state or have a Certificate of Completion of CNA classes, eligible to State Test.

Strong ability to communicate and work effectively with residents, staff, and supervisors.

Capable of performing physical tasks and maintaining a calm and professional demeanor in stressful situations.

This position demands a combination of strong caregiving skills, attention to detail, and compassion for residents' well-being, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met.
