Quantum Pain and Orthopedics is looking for a Licensed Vocational Nurse to join the team.

The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for admitting the patient to the clinical area and providing nursing care to the pre‑operative patient, as well as developing a nursing care plan specifically designed for the individual patient. The staffing of the Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross‑trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.

Essential Functions

Maintain a clean and therapeutic pre‑operative environment for all patients at all times.

Provide instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant.

Ensure supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order.

Admit the patient to the unit and prepare him/her for the scheduled procedure.

Make initial assessment, identify patient’s physical and mental status, and determine the nursing needs of the patient.

Explain nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety.

Monitor patient’s medical condition, report any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist.

Assure that surgical consent, pre‑operative test results, and History and Physical are documented in the medical record before the procedure.

Perform pre‑op and post‑op calls to patients.

Communicate additional discharge needs when applicable (transportation, durable medical equipment).

Educate patients and family, give patients and family members emotional support as necessary.

Report any important health history facts to the operating room nurse/medical director.

Document patient care delivered accurately in the medical record.

Implement doctor’s orders in a timely and accurate manner.

Maintain established Center/Departmental policies and procedures.

Maintain confidentiality of patient and Center related business.

Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, and other staff.

Document concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy.

Plan for routine events and anticipate/prevent, manage, and evaluate emergent situations.

Complete patient care responsibilities in a timely manner with accurate documentation.

Use downtime efficiently, help and respond positively to requests for assistance from team members.

Perform other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Understand and maintain clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration).

Excellent, professionally polished patient communication and interaction skills to practice collaborative nursing.

Practice nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and accept responsibility and accountability for own actions.

Ability to adequately diagnose, plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient condition.

Demonstrate clinical problem solving and critical thinking, make decisions using evidence based analytical approach.

Adapt to unexpected changes, effectively acclimate to various work schedules to achieve high quality of care.

Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word & E‑Clinical.

Strong attention to detail: thorough in completing work tasks.

Maintain composure, keep emotions in check, control anger, avoid aggressive behavior, even in difficult situations.

Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and/or the patient’s condition changes.

Ability to deal calmly and effectively with high stress situations.

Ability to work independently, guiding oneself with little or no supervision, depending on oneself to get things done.

Maintain effective records and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.

Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment.

Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette.

Energetic with a desire to learn and develop new skills.

Compliance with facility policies, procedures, continuing and mandatory education programs.

Education and Experience

High School diploma or GED.

One (1) year of experience in a medical office setting.

Current LVN licensure in the State of Texas.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified.
